Spree-Bogen Berlin – a perfect combination
of tradition and modernity
In 1989, just after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Ernst Freiberger purchased the historical site of the former dairy producer, Bolle, which is situated directly on the banks of the River Spree. On the spot where 13 years earlier he launched his career as an entrepreneur, Ernst Freiberger has developed the Spree-Bogen project which has become one of the major new landmarks of the reunified city of Berlin.
“Prussian-American” was how Thomas Mann characterized Berlin. And that is how the grandiose, river-facing ensemble appears when viewed from the River Spree. This highly aesthetic combination of listed, historical buildings and ultra-modern architecture - situated between the two city centers and next to the ‘Tiergarten’ – has served as the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of the Interior since 1999. The Spree-Bogen complex also encompasses the Abion Spreebogen Waterside Hotel, the Abion Villa, a number of doctors’ surgeries, sophisticated offices, retailer shops, eateries, and residential buildings.
